Here are some pictures from a hike I took yesterday. The best part is that it started from my front door. I love Portland.
Balch Creek near the bottom of the Lower Macleay Trail in Forest Park. 15 minutes before taking this photo I was drinking a coffee and reading the paper in NW Portland.
Another photo from the Lower Macleay Trail.
The Stone House. I'm not entirely sure what this was originally. It sits at the intersection of the Lower Macleay Trail and the Wildwood Trail. If I had gone North on the Wildwood I would have had approximately 25 miles of hiking in front of me with just a single road crossing. Instead, I headed South, toward Washington Park.
Pittock Mansion. The Wildwood Trail passes directly by this nearly 100 year old, city owned building.
The view from behind the Pittock Mansion. Mt. Hood is in the background. The orange arrow points to my building, where I'd started about an hour and a half earlier.
An unusual maple tree in Hoyt Arboretum, near the end of the Wildwood.
I finished my walk, which ended up being about 7 miles long, at the Oregon Zoo in Washington Park. From there I had a 10 minute ride on the MAX to get back home.
